The Challenge

The Caribbean Premier League and Women’s Premier League move fast. The tournament island hops, with kit and crew travelling by charter flight between venues and short turnarounds between matches.

That puts a hard limit on what can come along. Every case that flies has to earn its place, and anything that cannot be carried and set up quickly is a problem. At the same time, live sport gives you one chance to get it right, so travelling light cannot mean travelling without a backup.

The Constraints

  • Weight and volume decide everything — kit moves by charter, so the equipment list is limited by what will physically fly with the crew. Traditional outside broadcast infrastructure was never an option.
  • Short turnarounds between islands — there is little time between matches to travel, rig, test and go live.
  • Connectivity varies by venue — what is available at one ground is not what is available at the next, so nothing can be assumed on arrival.
  • No tolerance for downtime — a live match does not wait while a connection is restored. Redundancy had to be real rather than nominal, without adding significant weight.

The Solution

Our consultancy work starts well before the crew travels. We plan the connectivity each venue will need, source it, and test it ahead of arrival, so the path the feed will take is proven before anyone lands rather than discovered on the day.

On site, our transmission kits send the feeds out over those connections. Redundancy is built in at every layer: two kits, two diverse wired internet connections with 5G as a further backup, and two power sources at each venue. Even doubled, the whole setup takes up a fraction of the weight and volume of conventional broadcast equipment, so full redundancy still fits on the charter.

From there we distribute the feeds into BT Tower, or point to point straight to the destination, delivered in whichever format suits the taker. Our remote team lines up and monitors the feeds throughout, which keeps the on-site crew as small as the travel allows.

The Result

Lightweight, quick to move between islands, and straightforward to set up and strike within the turnarounds the schedule allows. Across the tournaments covered so far, zero downtime.

The work has grown alongside it. We have provided transmission since 2024, and now cover transmission, distribution and consultancy, taking on more of the chain as the requirement has developed.
